Langdon House

Having the right equipment is essential in today's demanding music business. Stereos and portable devices are able to play music better and more conveniently every day so having a studio that can make you sound exceptional on any sound system is a must. But maybe you're one of those artists who just can't afford those bigger studios because you're on a tight budget (you have to save up for that new amp somehow).

My goal with The Langdon House is to provide you with professional equipment and services at a fair and reasonable price. Some studio albums can cost upwards of thousands of dollars and sound great but something like that is out of a lot of artists' price range. Recording yourself is also becoming easier than ever with programs like Garage Band. But programs like that can only get you so far. And are you really sure you know what you're doing? You can trust that I will do my absolute best to give you the sound you're looking for.

RECORDING
Ear for detail

I've been in the music field for over 2 decades and know what to listen for in any music genre. I know when what I hear is good and when it needs some work. I'm honest with you when I think something needs fixed or isn't up to quality.

Patience

Everybody is different. Therefore, no two recording sessions will be the same. Some may take a few hours, some a few weeks. I have the patience to wait until the recording is the way you want it. Only then will we call it good and move on to the next step.

MIXING
Old Hat

Many studio engineers will tell you that old-school mixing is becoming less important in today's recording environment. I tend to disagree. You can do some great things with mixing. Just because going digital makes everything more accessible and sometimes easier, it would be wise not to overlook techniques that have worked well in the past and still work today.

Experience

I started in the live sound field when I was seven years old helping out with my parents' gospel singing group. I know how to mix voices and instruments for a great sounding mix on the fly. This transfers incredibly well to studio work. Click here for more detail.

MICROPHONES
Getting the Right Sound

Microphones are what make you sound great in the first place. A mic that doesn't fit your voice or instrument just will not sound right during mixing and editing. EQ can color the sound but the body of the sound comes from the mic.

Equipment

I currently have numerous large diaphragm microphones to meet your needs, including the ML-1 from Slate. This mic comes with plug-ins that mimic other popular analog mics in the industry making the ML-1 the most flexible mic in history to fit any voice. I also have a complete set of mics for drumset, acoustic guitar, wind instruments, and/or guitar amp setups. You can never have enough good microphones.

Creation
SOFTWARE
DAWs and Editors

I currently use the REAPER and Pro Tools digital audio workstations for all my projects. I also use the Audacity audio editor for general track editing and to export audio into virtually any audio format needed. I also use Melodyne software for pitch correction and timing issues. *Editor's note: I only use pitch correction when needed to fix the occasional "nervous" or "wobbly" sound that may occur when singing or to fix a note that is slightly out of tune. I personally do not like a perfect sounding vocal like many albums have nowadays. It sounds unnatural to me. Mistakes happen when singing which is all a part of the artistry of a song (unless, of course, it's a big mistake). But, if you are looking for an absolute perfect sound, I can do that for you. But, in this engineer's professional opinion, no amount of correction will beat a great singer.

DIGITAL COPIES
Vinyl on the Go!

Ever wanted to listen that old Chuck Mangione vinyl record while going for a jog or a leisurely drive? You can't very well take a record player with you. I can digitize those old records for you (or cassette tapes if you have those, too). You can then take them anywhere you want. Handy!

Always Good To Have a Backup

It's always a good idea to have a digital backup of your old albums or soundtracks just in case something ever happens to them. You can store them in just about any way imaginable anymore. Rates for that service as well as a little more detail can be found here.
